Exemptions in FSSAI Registration

Small-scale food businesses with an annual turnover below ₹12 lakh (however, they must still obtain Basic Registration).

Farmers and primary food producers engaged in the direct sale of raw agricultural produce to consumers without processing.

Individuals preparing and selling homemade food in very small quantities, such as home-based caterers operating on a minimal scale within a community.

Religious and charitable organizations distributing food without commercial intent (e.g., langars, free food distribution at temples, NGOs providing free meals, etc.).

Exporters of food products that are not intended for sale within India, as they are regulated separately under export-specific food safety norms.

FSSAI Registration Process

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Determine Eligibility: Choose the right category (Basic, State, or Central) based on turnover.
     

  2. Prepare Required Documents: Gather necessary documents (see below for details).
     

  3. Submit Application (Form A or B): Apply through the FSSAI online portal (FoSCoS).
     

  4. Fee Payment: Pay the registration/license fee online.
     

  5. Inspection by FSSAI Officials: If required, an inspection is conducted by the food authority.
